Background Information: Hans on the Wiki
Personality:
The thirteenth prince of the Southern Isles. At first glance, he may seem extraordinarily charming, supportive and helpful with a level of charisma that suits someone of actual royalty. Polite and always willing to listen, he seems like a genuinely good person.
Well, unfortunately, that's just one of the many facades that Hans has, depending on who he interacts with.
If there's one thing that Hans excels at, it's masking his emotions, and being able to craft his personality in such a way that would make the other person most comfortable around him. He's seen doing this with Anna, being very charming and even goofy, to compliment her own behavior. He acts like a leader for Arendelle when the sisters run away, helping the citizens and leading the guard, while telling them that no harm is to come to Queen Elsa. He even behaves as an anchor for Elsa in a couple of scenes, telling her not to be the monster that people thinks she is.
But all of these behaviors are just masks that he wears so that people can trust him. He knows that exceptional cruelty, at least right off the bat, won't get him anywhere, preferring to get people to place their faith in him until he has the right moment to size power and control from the situation. He comes extremely close to fulfilling his plans; it was mere seconds before his sword would have struck Elsa down. And he only got to that point because he told her that Anna died because of her, which weakened Elsa's resolve to not fight back. It shows that he knows people's weaknesses and will use it against them without hesitation.
As such, beneath his various fronts, lies a cruel individual, someone who also did not think twice about using Anna to take over her kingdom. He listened to her and her isolated past, just so he could behave in such a way that would get her to 'love' him as quickly as possible. He's shown to not care at all about her feelings, even mocking her in the end for marrying him in a day. His cruelty is on full display here, as he just leaves her to die afterward. It's his slip of his mask that became his eventual downfall, but it shows that Hans can be quite arrogant when he thinks that he's won in his plans.
But despite being an excellent liar, Hans doesn't necessarily lie all the time. It is true that he is the 13th son from the Southern Isles and it's reinforced through interviews and background material that his home life wasn't the best. He's flat out ignored by a couple of his brothers for a few years, and it's said that he grew up without love, which only contributed to the power hungry and ambitious man he later becomes. Of course, none of this excuses his actions in Arendelle, because really, he didn't have to go out of his way to try and commit homicide. Still, it shows how desperate he is to gain power and recognition, to have a kingdom of his own, only if so he could rub it in his brothers' faces. He doesn't seem to care about improving his relationship with his family at all, so everything he does in the movie is self-serving in the end.
Overall, he views nearly every emotion, especially love, as a tool to getting what he really wants in the end. He's not afraid or ashamed to use anyone along the way, showing a lack of remorse or guilt for his actions. His only real reaction to seeing Anna again is shock of her being alive, rather than anything else. Building genuine relationships with other people does not seem to cross his mind. When Anna says that the only one with a frozen heart is him, she is not wrong in the slightest bit.
Abilities & Inventory:
Besides being able to manipulate and mask his emotions, his main strengths surround his swordplay. He's shown to fight Marshmallow, a large ice monster that Elsa made, on his own and actually winning the fight against it. He's agile enough to dodge its attacks and strong enough to slice the monster's leg off in one swing, so he's decent at that sort of combat.
Suitability & Plans:
Hans has been in Songerein before and I'd like for him to remember his previous stay here! With his new canon point, being after Frozen Fever, he's sentenced to manual labor for probably an indeterminate about of time, which is honestly a light sentence since he tried to kill Queen Elsa and left Princess Anna to die. With that in mind, while he's not exactly happy, he's actually pretty glad that he's not dead, so it's one less thing for him to worry about while in game. Of course, he'll glad to be away again and no longer shoveling horse crap around, so he'll still be looking into a way to stay in this world for longer.
Due to his previous stay, he's also a little more... open about being a terrible person, so I'd like to continue that development, where he's not trying as hard (or at all) to mask how much of a gremlin he truly is. The fact that people in Songerein just sort of accepted and even forgave his actions in Arendelle has contributed to this. Embrace your inner awful self?
