[It's a cup Hans has probably used a number of times at this point, and Ferran has acquiesced to leaving it waiting for him in the same place as always; gold trim, floral design, not as small as the kinds with saucers.

As he presses his finger against his mouth, he lets out a low sound of agreement, somewhere between a hum and a growl.]

That's part of it. [He glances at his hand before returning to his work, more carefully this time—sewing dawn petals into the inside of the armor.] They're shifty, stupid, and they made their own mess that shouldn't be our problem.

[He doesn't mention the Fae thing—but does he really need to, at this point?]

[Even if Hans's back hadn't been turned, he wouldn't have tried to mask the change in his expression to something more grim.]

... what I'm concerned about is having to watch them rot another world away from the inside.

[He's not going back to that again. His hand trembles for a moment, but he pauses and presses his lips together until it passes before he returns to his work.]

I don't care about their reasons. It was careless, either way. And now they've put more people in danger...

[Ferran lets out an audible sigh. Maybe he can be heartless and hold onto a grudge, but—it's not much more than posturing, is it?]

You know that's not who I am.

[Frankly, he hardly has it in him to take a weapon to even the people he hates. Fighting monsters that bleed is hard enough. Little wonder you haven't managed anything of worth.]

Whatever happens to them... it'll be their own fault. [Maybe that's cowardly of him, but it is what it is. He doesn't take his eyes off his work when he continues, but he doesn't sound like he expects an affirmative answer:] Are you going?
noblegarnet: (f: and...?)

[His brow furrows as he glances at Hans, picking up another petal from the jar and setting it into place. It's not a judgmental frown, though—more curious than anything.]

I guess you wouldn't know, huh?

[Ferran hasn't really seen any instance where Hans has been affected by that sort of thing—transformed in some ways by the circumstances in general, maybe, but he's always so in control of himself. Ferran's a little envious, really.]

Somehow it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't make a difference for you at all.
noblegarnet: (f: hmmst)

[It'll get to you someday, Hans—Ferran will wear you down until then... but no, it's not really anything to do with the charm, you nerd. A quick flick of his gaze gives off the impression of rolling his eyes.]

I just get the feeling that you'd end up weaponizing it or something.

[Guilt doesn't seem to be a factor for Hans, generally, and he's proven willing to be much more... active when it comes to fighting against his miserable station, at least in the past. What would be stopping him from using it, really? Ferran lets out a quick huff of a sigh, frowning at the gently glowing petals he's working with.]

It would probably be more useful than having to ward it off with five different things...

Hm.

[Ferran presses his lips together in thought. Hans really is a forward thinker... he'll have to compliment the prince on that sometime, when it won't make his head explode.]

The Fae I know hate to owe anything to anyone... maybe getting saving them from themselves would make them talk about everything they've managed to set up.

[Meanwhile, Ferran has no qualms about admitting he'd only be helping for his own gain—or at least only the benefit of Reverein. Whatever happens to Orkili after this mess? Not his problem.]

[He lets out a facetious huff.]

Like that would be an option if anybody else from Reverein was around.

[Somehow Ferran feels like the number of those with enough initiative to go to a nightmare-infested city and few enough morals to leave someone to die is very, very small.]

I wonder where the hell these people even came from, if they've been here long enough to even develop nightmare tech. Supposedly this place didn't evolve life on its own—unless those dream eaters were just lying, [in an irritated half-mutter:] which is always possible.

[Yep, he still has a grudge against the tapir too.]

It's a double-edged sword, huh.

[Ferran would have... well, he would've had a much more unpleasant time without those nosy people. Back to complaining about fae creatures, though, as it's one of his favorite pastimes...]

They sure didn't want us to venture out of town when we first showed up. Makes sense they'd be hiding more, for whatever bizarre reasons they might have...

[He doesn't expect for it to make sense; he's not giving them the benefit of the doubt for anything.]
noblegarnet: (i: well...)

[personal profile] noblegarnet 2023-10-11 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Another petal is taken out of the jar and carefully placed inside the leather... and Ferran shakes his head, somewhat exasperated.]

That depends on how willing you are to face the consequences.

[He would be prepared—if he were interested in such a thing. He doesn't know if Hans would be, or if he could even shield the prince from retaliation properly.]

I don't know if it would be worth the effort, anyway. It could be they're just stupid.

[That's a weird pause, but Ferran doesn't think much of it for now. He's got other things to focus on, anyway. Like the fact that Hans has walked over and made sure he's looking at the prince, for example. With his eyebrows raised:]

I won't get into anything I can't get out of.

[Probably. He sounds confident enough, at least...]
